With a stethoscope gently resting on her newborn'south chest, Presley Trejo listened to her piffling girl's eye trounce for the very last time.
At just 12 days old, baby Emerson passed away in her mother'due south arms.

For Presley, her eye still aches over the loss of her infant girl whose death was entirely preventable.
"Picking out a tiny babe casket is the most gut-wrenching thing," Presley tells 7Life.
On July 25 2018, Presley and her husband Elias welcomed Emerson into the earth.
With two big brothers and a loving mum and dad, the Trejo family was complete.
Happy and healthy, both mum and infant were discharged from hospital ii days after the nativity.
A few days later at Emerson's newborn checkup, the pediatrician noticed a small-scale blister within her mouth.
"He told u.s. that this was very common in newborns and not to worry nearly it," the US mum explains.
Simply 4 days later, Emerson suddenly stopped breathing.
Later existence rushed to hospital, doctors managed to stabilise the newborn before examining her.
Presley told doctors of the small cicatrice in her babe's mouth, simply the medical staff reiterated what her pediatrician had told her a few days prior - that the cicatrice was normal.
"The spot was never tested," Presley says.
With a slight fever, doctors placed the baby on fluids.
"She just slept… and slept.. and slept.. she wasn't waking up very often to feed so that concerned me," the mum says.
When she raised her concerns, the medical staff explained that once Emerson was off the medication she would be back to her normal bubbly self.
And iii days subsequently Emerson'south status had stabalised and she was discharged.
"She was however pretty lethargic and still didn't have an appetite. I just assumed she was all the same coming off of the fluid," her mum says.
For the next few days Emerson continued to reject food so Presley phoned doctor afterwards doctor badly seeking an answer.
But the mum was told by multiple doctors that once the fluids had completely flushed out of her system, Emerson would be back to her hungry self.
Presley wasn't convinced the doctors were right and turned to Google for answers.

That's when she discovered that Emerson's symptoms were a match for a virus known as HSV-i.

According to the World Wellness Organization, Herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) is a highly contagious orally transmitted virus that unremarkably shows up in small blisters in the mouth, eyes or lip surface area.
In adults, the virus is often shown as a cold sore and tin can be treated, however for babies younger than 4 weeks old HSV-i tin can be fatal.
The virus is often chosen "the kiss of decease" as it can be easily transmitted when an infected adult kisses a newborn.
Experts say it's important to maintain strict hygiene habits when caring for a new baby if you, or anyone in shut contact with the baby, accept cold sores.
Armed with this information, Presley phoned her doctor who brash her to not worry and merely bring Emerson in if she did not wake upwardly in the evening for a feed.
That night Emerson woke as usual and then thinking she must be overreacting, her relieved mum planned a day of fun for the family of five.
"I'll never forget this day… what started out as such a beautiful perfect day would end upwardly in the most horrific nightmare of my life," the mum says.
That afternoon as they pulled Emerson out from her car seat she began to have a seizure. And then she went limp and began to plough royal in her mother's arms.
As emergency services arrived, they began performing CPR.
Presley's precious girl had stopped animate.

At the infirmary, Presley and Elias paced the corridors waiting for whatever news.
"I've never seen so many doctors and nurses trying to save one tiny baby," she says.

"We found out that it was too tardily to save her. Her kidneys had failed and her liver was right backside," Presley says.
"We knew we weren't going home with our infant again. It was then we found out she had HSV-i.
"We went out to our family finally, and told them that she wasn't going home with united states once more. She was completely on a ventilator and only machines here keeping her live," the mum tearfully recalls.
Crushed by the news, Elias and Presley held each other.
That night the family spent the evening on the infirmary floor and the next forenoon they had to brand a conclusion.
"We discussed all dark long simply felt it was all-time for us to let her get so she wouldn't have to suffer anymore.
"The baby I saw in that bed, wasn't my Emerson anymore. And it would take been selfish of me to attempt and concur on to her any longer," Presley says.
On August half-dozen, 2018 the Trejo family said their concluding goodbye.
At 12 days erstwhile, Presley had her terminal cuddle with her footling girl every bit the family unit turned off her life support.

Three months afterwards, the family was brought out of their dark cloud of grief when they received some unexpected news - Presley was pregnant.
"Not with one but two perfect baby girls. We were thrilled and excited but knew we could never replace our Emmy daughter," she says
And nine months later 2 gorgeous healthy rainbow babies were born.
Merely Presley doesn't meet herself as a mum of iv. She is a proud mum of five - 4 earth-side and one angel.

"My plea to parents is to please don't let anyone kiss your babies. Non on the easily or face, oral fissure. You tin carry the [HSV-1] virus and never have an outbreak," the mum warns.
